You’ll best feel the contrast between the harsh, unwelcoming mountain peaks and the picturesque, gentle landscape beneath them in the foothills of the Krkonose Mountains.
There, where the cold and inhospitable ridges turn into colorful meadows and green fields, where wild mountain streams become calm rivers, and the sharp, winding trails curve into gentle bends, you’ll discover foothill towns and villages brimming with life.
Let yourself be enchanted by the romantic, even pensive atmosphere of Roprachtice. Walk past timbered cottages of the foothills, stroll through meadows and fields, with the panorama of the Krkonose Mountains accompanying you on the horizon. Discover the educational trail Vlcek ktery nekouse (Wolfie Who Doesn’t Bite), full of fascinating stories. The story of the U borovice Lookout tower above Roprachtice is also unique. Treat yourself to a 360° panoramic view of the landscape.

The inconspicuous village of Mricna surprises with its archaeological sites and famous natives, such as Jan Buchar and Vaclav Vrbata. A walk along one of the local educational trails, for example, the green or yellow route, will lead you to the Vecernicek swing in the middle of the meadows with a view of the Krkonose Mountains. Be sure to stop by the natural swimming pool, which offers year-round activities.

Chotevice offers a 14-kilometer circuit through peaceful countryside, which will take you to a Marian pilgrimage site and the Hajemstvi forest area. Upon your return, visit the Church of St. Peter and Paul, where unique concerts are organized by its patrons, Karin and famous czech singer Richard Krajčo. The church also serves as a pop art gallery of the artist Josef Rataj.

Come for a walk to the twice-awarded Village of the Year of the Liberec Region. Try to find the View Benches! The local scout troop made 10 of them and placed them at beautiful viewpoints. We recommend those at the top of Stráž. If you need a more specific destination for your trip, or if you’re looking for something to do with children in the afternoon, try the quest.

The mountains are proud, but it is the humility of the lowlands that feeds us.
