KRTEK - Krkonose Centre for Environmental Education
This unique building designed by architect Petr Hajek was built next to the National Park Administration building in Vrchlabi. Public lectures and conferences are held here in a lecture hall for 76 participants and 2 barrier-free places for the handicapped. With its wide screen and spatial audio equipment, the hall has the parameters of a small cinema hall.
A laboratory and lecture room are used for education. Direct contact between theory and practice plays an important role in the education process. The laboratory, with a capacity for 16 students, is adjacent to the lecture hall with a capacity for 30.
The building also includes an exhibition hall, library, environmental consultancy and car park for clients. The structure is sunken into the terrain, thus enjoying very low heat losses. It is heated by a heat pump. The bearing structures and underground walls are made of concrete while the partition walls in the interior and the furniture are made from plywood slabs.
