House with Seven Gables
Vrchlabí
The oldest house in Vrchlabi looks like a countryside chalet adapted to life in the town. It was the property of shoemaker Schreier and his family for a long time. The unusual appearance of the house is the result of efforts to make the best use of the entire space. The most interesting part is the attic room with deck walls and ceiling, decorated with colourful painted strips with floral and geometric patterns. The beams and support frames are reminiscent of red Carrara marble, where an unknown artist intended to imitate a chateau room. Six of the originally seven gables have been preserved.
