Krakonos Tour

Pec pod Sněžkou - Vrchlabí - Strážné - Pec pod Sněžkou

A very challenging bike trip only for experienced, fit and courageous cyclists. However, the views are worth it, the nature changes before your eyes and the highest parts of the Krkonoše Mountains are not easy to see.

As you ascend, notice how the nature around you changes. The foothills and valleys are suitable for broadleaved trees, especially beeches, and the higher you go the more hardy species, mainly spruce, appear. Higher up, on flat hill tops where cold winds prevail and the soil is often waterlogged, is a suitable climate for the dwarf pine, grasses and peat moss. The highest areas of the mountains, covered in stone, are good enough for grass tufts, mosses and lichens. Above all of this there is the mighty pyramid-shaped landmark of Mount Snezka, modelled by glaciers in the last glacial epoch.

Follow the blue-marked hiking trail from Pec pod Snezkou to Velka Upa. Near the Javori mlyn hotel, turn off for the K23 cycle track which runs along the green-marked hiking trail. Take the Javorska road to Vlasske chalet and turn off for Thamovy chalet. Join the Krkonose’s First Educational Cycle Trail to Vaclavak junction. Turn right for the K1B cycle track for Kolinska chalet, Prazska chalet, Hrncirske chalet and the ‘Pod Lesni boudou’ junction. Turn left and continue along the K1B track to Tetrevi chalet. What follows is a long descent along the K1B cycle track. After Hanapetrova paseka junction, some 1 km away, turn left for K1C, descend to Dolni Dvur and Horni Lanov. Turn right off the main road for the blue-marked cycle track 4301 and follow the asphalt road, i.e., do not turn left on the cycle track. You will join the main road in Horejsi Vrchlabi and then you can descend to the centre of Vrchlabi, the gateway to the central parts of the Krkonose.

From there, you take a long ascent to the highest parts of the Krkonose. Go back to Horejsi Vrchlabi and turn right for Strazne. Join the K1A cycle track in the centre of the village where it runs along the red-marked hiking trail, and continue past the Hribeci, Predni Rennerovky, Zadni Rennerovky and Na Rozcesti chalets, to Vyrovka chalet. Turn right there and go back to Pec pod Snezkou past Richtrovy chalet.
