How to enjoy a holiday in peace, without crowds and with respect for the rules and nature

The Krkonose National Park is one of the most visited national parks in Europe. The peak period for natural sites, trails, routes, but also tourist destinations and attractions is the beginning of the summer holidays. However, this does not mean that the Krkonose Mountains are bursting at the seams. Don't be discouraged! Just avoid a few locations and take different routes to enjoy the peace and quiet of pure mountain nature.

Which places to avoid?

The Krkonose National Park Authority can give us an overview of the busiest routes thanks to counters placed in the field. As expected, these are mainly all the peak routes around Snezka. Most hikers on average use the red marked chain trail, which in summer is only for climbing the highest mountain. 2,500 people a day pass this way. This is followed by the descending blue Jubilee Trail with an average of 1800 people per day. Other busy locations include Labska bouda, Upske peat bog, Cerna hora, the source of the Elbe, the Hanc and Vrbata Mound. Daily averages at these sites range from 500 to 1000 tourists per day.

Let's respect the rules of the national park and safe movement in the mountains

Let's respect the rules of the national park and safe movement in the mountains

Don't underestimate the risks and the specifics of the mountain climate and be well prepared for both! Take care of yourself and your loved ones, but also of the nature you are in. The fauna and flora of the Krkonose Mountains have become accustomed to harsh conditions, strong winds and low temperatures. Local species are resistant to the weather, but they cannot resist the reckless behaviour of visitors.

The biggest enemy of the Krkonose nature is man, who has forgotten that he is only visiting the mountains.

How to equip yourself for a hike

Rules of conduct in KRNAP

The basic rule is - in quiet areas, stay on the path! Even if it seems that only ordinary grass grows around the paths, the real gems may be hidden from our eyes, but they are there. This rule applies in the quiet areas, which make up only 22% of the park's area, but preserve the rarest things.

  • Give peace to the Krkonose wildlife. Even if we're quiet, they know about us. It needs to nest, to roost, to hunt, even to rest.
  • Don't pick wild flowers. Except for invasive species that are usurping the native ones. That's lupine, for example, and you'll be doing the meadows of the Krkonose Mountains a favour by picking it for your vase.
  • Do not enter unmown meadows. They are unmown on purpose. The plants need to seed and be fertilised. Let's not spoil it. In addition, they are often home to small animals that need the flowers and fruits of meadow flowers to live. Such meadows are harvested later than others.
  • Don't destroy the forest. Do not enter or ride on anything in wooded areas.
  • Protect vernal pools and watercourses. The water that springs in the Krkonose Mountains refreshes many pilgrims. Maybe even you and your children. So don't pollute the springs or watercourses.
  • Don't camp in the forest or anywhere else in the Krkonose Mountains and don't build fires outside the designated areas. One spark is enough for a big disaster.
  • What you bring to the countryside, you take back with you. Leave no trace. Don't look for trash in the mountains. If the snack fits in the backpack whole, so does the wrapper or skin. You need to go to the bathroom and it's a long way to the hut? Nature can handle that, as long as you don't leave a napkin in addition to your biological footprint.
  • Cycle only in daylight and only on marked routes. Ski only on pistes and marked ski-alpine trails.
  • Leave the drones at home and pyrotechnics at home. Don't even let off any lucky lanterns.
