Jilemnice Castle

Museum in the Chateau

The chateau in Jilemnice was built in the second half of the 16th century on the site of an older Waldstein fortress. It has retained its Renaissance core to this day, even though it has undergone several reconstructions over the centuries. Many different owners have lived here. Among them, the Harant family of Polzice and Bezdruzice stood out, and later the Counts Harrach.

Since 1953, the chateau has been home to the Krkonose Museum. Its premises house both historical and cultural exhibitions. The chateau interiors present not only the life story of Jan Nepomuk Count Harrach, but also the atmosphere of aristocratic living. Everything is furnished with an emphasis on period details.

In the former brewery, which is part of the premises, there is the Crafts Marketplace. Here you can watch craftsmen at work using traditional techniques such as wirework, basketry, woodworking, or making jewelry and decorations. The products can be purchased, allowing you to take home a piece of genuine handicraft from the foothills of the Krkonose Mountains.
