TOP 7 winter experiences in the Krkonose Mountains

The winter Krkonose Mountains are not only a skiing paradise. You can have fun here even if you are not into skiing or cross-country skiing. Or if you do like skiing but want to experience something else from the Krkonose.

You can swap your skis for skialps and your snowboard for snowshoes. Instead of the heated cable car, sit on the heated salt loungers in the wellness centre and relax. Leave the car in the garage for once and hitch up the dog sled to take you through the white paradise. Go ice-skating under the night sky of the Krkonose or have a ride in a snowcat.

Enjoy the Krkonose Mountains in ways you may not have thought of before.

Skating in the open air and under the roof

If you have packed ice skates for your holiday in the Krkonose Mountains, you have done well. The offer is diverse... A new municipal ice rink opened last winter season in Spindleruv Mlyn. The highest ice rink is located on Horni Mala Upa next to the Pomezky ski slope. The rink is even illuminated, try a pirouette under the stars. You'll feel like you're in a Christmas fairy tale in Hostinne - when it's freezing, there's an ice rink right on the square under the Christmas tree.

Alpine Skiing

Experience a journey far beyond the slopes and everyday life! Alpine skiing is a way to enjoy the mountains on skis without queuing at the cable car turnstiles. Push your own limits, breathe fresh air on the way up, clear your head on the way down, and leave your worries below the hill. Based on the cooperation of the Krkonose National Park Administration with the Mountain Rescue Service and the Czech Mountain Guides Association, eight ski toruing tracks are available in the Krkonose Mountains. Enjoy them, but be careful of yourself and respectful of nature!

Night ride on sledge trail

Spend an adventurous winter evening on the Cernohorska sledge trail. Immerse yourself in darkness and silence and enjoy an adrenaline-filled ride. No illuminated track, but headlamps and an experienced guide will be your partners on the 3.5 km long journey.

TIP - The evening ride must be booked and paid for. Book preferably by 3pm on the chosen day. During the day, the ride is open from 9am to 4pm and is free to use.

You can also have a nice ride on the Spindleruv Mlyn toboggan run. And when there is enough snow, on every intermediate hill and slope. We will advise you where to go with your own sledges.

Where to sledge

On the ridges on snowshoes

Equip yourself with snowshoes and walk across the snowy plain as gracefully as a lynx. Even in winter, there's no need to give up hiking, and you'll be faster on snowshoes than the average walker. You just need to get used to a longer stride. Snowshoes can now be rented from ski equipment rental shops. Then just choose one of the recommended routes. If you have never been on snowshoes before and are hesitant about which way to go, try organised trips. This option is offered, for example, by the Adventure Company in Harrachov.

Please, however, take into account the groomed cross-country skiing tracks when moving in the mountains and do not destroy them!

Mushing - dog sledding

Experience the excitement of man and dog working together! Take a ride on a sledge pulled by a dog sledge to the peaks of the snow-covered Krkonose Mountains. Anyone who knows how to dress warmly and is not afraid of a group of furry friends can take the ride. The use of sled dogs used to be the only option for transport in mountain areas. Today, mushing is both a sport and a pastime, and you may be more excited about this nature-friendly ride than, say, snowmobiling.
